Titleist’s New $2,000 Wedge Set

May 15, 2017

How much would you pay for a wedge set, if you knew it would significantly help your short game? For $2,000, you can now visit the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, Calif., and undergo a three-hour, one-on-one wedge-fitting session with James Patrick Harrington, the company’s new wedge designer who first gained fame sculpting clubs for PGA TOUR Pro Aaron Baddeley.

Golfers paying for the “JP Fitting Experience” receive three custom-made wedges as part of the day. Additional lofts will run you $500 apiece. Titleist just debuted this high-end custom wedge sub-brand, which stands independent of the company’s popular Bob Vokey wedge line. The fitting session includes Harrington using a CNC controlled, high-speed video and motion capture system to break down your unique impact dynamics at 10,000 frames per second. He also taps a Trackman ball flight monitor and expansive matrix of wedge clubheads and shafts to optimally fit you for loft, lie and distance gapping. And then he’ll validate the custom specs he’s determined for you through a comprehensive range of shots and distances, from various ground types. Harrington says his ultimate goal is to “create a product that’s not only going to perform but is going to be a timeless design and a work of art. A wedge that every time you pull it out of the bag, you know it’s made for you.”

Veteran golf writer Scott Kramer has covered the golf equipment market full-time since 1990. His career has spanned senior editor positions at both Golf Pro Magazine and GOLF Magazine. He now works on a freelance basis for many consumer and trade publications, including the SCGA’s FORE magazine.
