In the past year, adidas has begun making some of its products from recycled materials. It’s all a part of “fighting for plastic-free oceans by turning plastic trash into high-performance sportswear,” according to the company website. Its new Parley collection — named after a much larger movement that brings together innovators raising awareness of oceans’ fragility and beauty — includes adidas Golf’s TOUR360 XT Parley shoes ($200).
Its uppers are made from upcycled plastic waste that was intercepted from beaches and coastal communities before reaching the ocean. These shoes aim for comfort and feature full-length BOOST cushioning material that aims to energize your feet. The ocean-blue and black color scheme looks like it belongs at any Southern California beach.
“Our core belief is that through sports we have the power to change lives,” says Masun Denison, global footwear director at adidas Golf. “We feel it is our duty to push sustainability…there is absolutely a plan on increasing the amount of sustainability in our line. The recycled/upcycled material does not negatively impact performance. The overall product design and function is still performance-driven for athletes and consumers but now contains the added benefit of being more sustainable. In this way, it’s a win-win for everyone.”
