Anyone who knows me is well aware that I am not a fashion posterboy. My wife constantly sends me back to the dresser drawer for a redux. Yet the past two weeks, people have actually approached me about where I got my shoes. That’s because I’ve been wearing PUMA Golf’s new Suede G shoe ($100) a lot. The company recently started selling this iconic shoe again, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original Suede. And let’s face it: America loves the throwback look.
While the model in 1968 was not a golf shoe, the current version is. It’s made with a premium, waterproof, low-nap suede upper and microfiber leather stripe. For the golf course, its white outsole includes hidden traction nubs that grip the turf nicely. I can vouch, having worn it on and off the course. While the Suede G has the look of a skateboard-style sneaker, the inside is comfortable. On several occasions, I’ve worn it all day long — which is saying something, as I suffer from plantar fasciitis and am very particular about the shoes I wear. This is part of PUMA’s Throwback Collection for men and women that will include accessories and apparel paying homage to the late 60’s, including corduroy bottoms.
